A short, well not so short, addendum to the last blog. After finishing a lovely bottle of Moet, we headed up to the Luna Bar, which is on the 34th floor of our hotel. It has stunning view of KL Tower and Petronas Tower, it is also where we went for a swim earlier in the day.

So after a refreshing gin and tonic with some potatoes skins looking at the lovely sky line, we had another gin and tonic.

Eventually we decided to head down stairs to the 23rd floor for dinner at the Thai place. Lovely, although it was buffet style. Our head waitress lady told us where everything was. We are sure she said the entrée section was right near our table. So we started there. It was a strange mixture, particularly the very salty fish. Feeling a bit thirsty, we walked over to the main section. Hmmm, I think he got it wrong and we had entre in the condiments section. It would really explain a lot. So then we had second entrée of spring roll, satay, a really nice coconut relish thingy and others. Main was a taste of everything, rice and curry of every form. The only thing missing was noodles. I was aiming to have noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All of it was exceptionally delicious. So feeling rather full we staggered back to our massive room on the 20th floor for a nap.

So now to today. Woke up. Still feeling rather full form dinner last night we chose to skip breaky at the hotel and go to the airport. We arrived really early, even stupidly early for Dyt-time. It gave us time to sit and have a coffee and a small snack (pie and sausage roll) to call breakfast. Then we wandered around the shops to see if they had any gin. Eventually found our new favourite gin (Hendricks, thanks Sumo). Another coffee and we were ready to be awake.

Sat on the plane for 3.5 hours and arrived in Sri Lanka. We were picked up at the airport by our driver/guide, Ernest (very important). Unfortunately he gave us a garland each. Hello, tourist, pick me. So we felt really conspicuous walking around the airport to find the ATM and a sim card for the phone. Gladly took it off in the car.

A short drive, dodging bicycles, three wheelers, pedestrians and trucks, we arrived at our hotel in Negombo. Negombo is closer to the airport than Colombo and is on the beach. We have a lovely room overlooking the beach.

Not content to sit, we took to exploring the local streets. Well, just the one street with all the restaurants on it to work out where we will go for dinner. We stopped for an ale at ‘Lords’, yes there is the cricket reference. Had some yummy vegie pakoras as a snack with some Three Coins Beer, a local one. Hope it treats us better than the Three Horses we had in Madagascar!

Now we are sitting in our nice room with a G&T, watching The Ashes. Do you think Australia can win??? It is blowing a gale outside, so walking on the beach is a bit unpleasant.

I must say, we are very happy that an election has been called in good ole Oz, with a date of 7 Sept. This means that we are away from all that stuff and don’t have to listen to hours and hours and hours of mindless election campaigning forced upon us at every second.

Holiday is going ok, looking forward to what comes next.

We went out for a nice dinner at a little place down the road called King Coconut, a seafood place. Happy, full and feeling a little tired.
