Cuppa anyone?

A gentle start this morning as we only had about 60km to go today. We got out of Kandy at a reasonable time so we didn’t have to deal with bumper to bumper traffic. Our drive today was into the hill country, past acres and acres of tea plantation. We stop at a tea plantation to go for a short stroll and got accosted by a local lady. She picked me a flower, posed for a photo and then demanded money.

A bit further down the road we stopped at the largest tea factory in Sri Lanka for a factory tour and a cuppa.

Lunch was again at a lovely small local restaurant. We checked into our hotel, Grand Hotel. It is the old British governor’s residence. Rather spectacular.

Just 400m up the road is the Hill Club. The Albatross was keen to go here, so we donned our fancy clothes and wander up the road. Only to be disappointed as the bar didn’t open until 5pm. The Hill Club is apparently a must see, it is a bit of the old colonial empire still trying to hang on. Maybe tomorrow night.
