Food, food and a wafer more

The Albatross

Sunday 04 August 2013

First thing, breakfast. We were a tad peckish after an early meal on the plane and then a late night. Fortunately they had the full spread including one of my favourite brekkies ever of rice porridge with all the sprinkles (little dried fish etc). Unfortunately no peanuts or sambal. Of course we also had noodles (wet and dry), chicken curry, dhal, etc. Yum.

We then thought we’d stroll through Little India as we’d missed that last time we were in KL. Fortunately the market area was still opening up so it wasn’t too bonkers. Apparently they only sell fabric there (well, that’s what we seemed to find). Finished that, we thought we’d go camera shopping in a big IT mall as we were thinking of upgrading one of our cameras if the price was right. As seems to happen in KL we missed our lane and ended up in China Town, which is fun, but utterly bonkers and hard to walk around in. Eventually we extracted ourselves and we made it where we were meant to be. Unfortunately the camera we were after seems to be cheaper online in Australia than what we could score here. No worries, we have one good camera and the other is not bad.

It was 11:00 by now (why do we never sleep in on holidays?) and I was peckish again, so we stopped for a hot cup of Chai, a roti, and 3 sauces. Tuna wasn’t that rapt with the tea, but I liked it, and the bread and dips was fantastic for AUD$1:20 all up.

We then tried our luck in the next mall, but no dice, so it was time for lunch. Big bowls of soupy noodles! Tuna had wanton, chicken based ones, I had spicy pork ones, a cup of green tea and some strange fried seafood thing. I was finally full.

We headed back to the hotel, it was getting very hot and steamy, so a quick shower to wash off the slime, then up to the pool to cool down. The pool’s on the 34th floor and is right next to KL tower, and also has views of the amazing Petronas Towers (at night it’s meant to be one of the best bars in KL). Anyway, a dip and couple of beers later and we were feeling human again.

Now we’re sitting in our hotel room sipping a rather nice bottle of Moet and being utter bogans by streaming the footy. Holidays are rubbish, dinner awaits at a nice Thai place.
